Thieves break into cars at CCP complex, Macapagal Blvd

MANILA, Philippines - A gang of thieves have broken into three cars, one parked at the Cultural Center of the Philippines complex and two along Macapagal Boulevard, in Pasay City in the past two weeks, an official said yesterday.

Chief Superintendent Jose Erwin Villacorte, Southern Police District director, said the gang’s latest victim is Roberto Mangilit, a retiree residing in Pandacan, Manila.

Mangilit parked his car at the Boom na Boom open parking area at past 6 p.m. Saturday but when he returned two hours later, he found that his car had been broken into and the thieves stole P800,000 and a black bag containing office supplies, according to a police report.

On July 30, businessman Jordan Magbanua lost a camera, two lenses, a laptop computer, two ATM cards and documents he had in his Mitsubishi Pajero, which he had left at the Jetti Business Center’s parking area on Macapagal Boulevard just before 1 p.m. as he had lunch with some friends.

When he returned to his car after 45 minutes, he found that thieves had already shattered the window.

Investigators believe the same people broke into Buhay party-list Rep. Irwin Tieng’s Toyota Land Cruiser – which bore a congressional license plate – as it was parked in front of a fastfood restaurant at the corner of Macapagal Boulevard and Gil Puyat Avenue at around noon on July 26.

Tieng’s driver, Erwin Inot, told police the thieves had broken the vehicle’s right rear window and taken a gun, an Apple laptop computer and an iPad.
