1 nabbed in Valenzuela businesswoman’s slay

MANILA, Philippines - A man was arrested Thursday for killing a businesswoman and wounding two others during a robbery in Valenzuela City last month.

Danilo Rosario was apprehended while eating at a restaurant in Barangay Paso de Blas at around 9 a.m., Senior Police Officer 4 Jesus Sagisi said.

He said an informant tipped them off on Rosario’s whereabouts. Rosario was the subject of arrest warrants by two Valenzuela judges for four counts of robbery.

Investigators said Rosario claimed he only planned to rob Christina Shotien Ong; her husband, Vicente; and their maid, Merinyl Tillo, as the victims were in a sport utility vehicle along the national highway in Barangay Kanumay West before 11 a.m. last July 6. The Ongs’ vehicle was stuck in traffic when Rosario struck.

The suspect said when he poked a handgun at Ong, her husband steered the car to avoid him. The move angered Rosario, and he shot the three victims.

Ong died while being treated at a hospital, while her husband and maid survived the attack.

Rosario will be charged with murder and two counts of frustrated murder before the city prosecutor’s office.
