British man nabbed in drug bust

Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A British man, who had lost his job as a call center consultant, was arrested for allegedly selling almost five grams of shabu, which has a street value of P20,000, to undercover policemen in Quezon City.

Deepak Kumar, 45, was arrested at a restaurant in Libis Friday afternoon, said Quezon City Police District director Chief Superintendent Richard Albano.

Assistant City Prosecutor Ben dela Cruz recommended the filing of the charges against Kumar with no bail for his provisional liberty, said QCPD deputy director for administration Senior Superintendent Joel Pagdilao.

Senior Inspector Roberto Razon, head of the QCPD’s anti-drugs unit, said Kumar – who has been in the country for eight years – lost his job a year ago and was staying with a friend in Mandaluyong City.

Razon said they knew about Kumar’s alleged activities after arresting a drug peddler who claimed that Kumar was his supplier.
