Cop in Letran player’s ambush wants to surrender

Non Alquitran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A policeman accused of masterminding the attack on Letran Knights point guard Franz Dysam has sent surrender feelers, an official said yesterday.

Police Officer 2 Roland de Guzman has agreed to surface as he vehemently denied having anything to do with the ambush on Dysam, 24, and his partner, Joan Sordan, 33. De Guzman is a former lover of Sordan.

De Guzman’s “mediator, who is also known to me, claimed that De Guzman wanted to surrender to clear his name,” San Juan City police chief Senior Superintendent Bernard Tambaoan said in an interview.

He said De Guzman vowed to reveal “explosive” information that would lead to the solution of the case.

Tambaoan asked the public to report the presence of De Guzman to the San Juan police so he could be arrested. He could be reached at telephone number 724-3744.

“The surrender feeler might only be a diversionary tactic so I’m releasing his picture for the public to help us in our effort to arrest him,” Tambaoan said.

Last Wednesday, Tambaoan led a team of policemen in a raid on De Guzman’s house in Valenzuela City, but neighbors claimed the policeman and his family moved to another house months ago. He said the policeman failed to update his personal data sheet.

De Guzman, who is currently assigned to the Headquarters Support Service of the Philippine National Police at Camp Crame, is suffering from a kidney problem.

“He reports only on the 15th and 30th of the month because he is now frail and weak due to his dialysis, which is three times a week,” Tambaoan said in an interview.

Dysam and Sordan were on their way home after a basketball game at The Arena in San Juan City when a man shot at them.
