MANILA, Philippines - Two men were hurt when a closed van loaded with construction materials crashed into the concrete wall of the Metro Rail Transit tracks along EDSA near the Magallanes interchange in Makati City yesterday morning.

Injured were the van’s helpers Elbhert Singal and Dennis Busar. According to the Metrobase of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the van (TSU-703) was cruising the southbound lane of EDSA at 6:52 a.m. when it suddenly lost control and slammed into the MRT wall.

The impact caused the van, driven by Jose Navarro, to fall on its left side.

In a radio interview, Navarro, 23, said the accident happened as he was preparing to enter the interchange going to the South Luzon Expressway.

Following the accident, the van occupied two lanes of EDSA going southbound, causing traffic to slow down all the way to Kamuning in Quezon City.

The MMDA’s rescue team removed the van in the area after two hours.
