MANILA, Philippines - A rookie policeman shot one of two alleged robbers during a heist in a passenger bus in Quezon City Tuesday night.
Superintendent Pedro Sanchez, commander of the Quezon City Police District Station 2, said Mark Charlie Ang, 18, remains confined at the Quezon City General Hospital due to a gunshot wound in the buttocks.
Ang was shot by PO1 Franky San Pedro during a bus robbery at past 10 p.m. at the corner of EDSA and Quezon Avenue in Barangay Bagong Pag-Asa.
The suspect yielded a fan knife. His companion, identified only as a certain Gerry Bisaya, managed to escape.
Meanwhile, a call center agent was shot dead by one of three robbers after he refused to hand over his cell phone while riding a bus in Mandaluyong City yesterday.
Adrian Pascual, 22, died while being treated at the Mandaluyong City Medical Center.
Senior Superintendent Florendo Quibuyen, Mandaluyong City police chief, said Pascual was listening to music on his cell phone when the suspects declared a holdup at knifepoint.
But Pascual resisted, prompting the suspects to shoot him. – Reinir Padua, Non Alquitran
