MANILA, Philippines - Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Alan Purisima said yesterday he has joined popular microblogging site Twitter to reach out to the public.
He said the public can now send messages directly to him through his personal account, @AlanLPurisima.
“I’m new on Twitter. I’m not yet familiar with this but I’m learning. We want to get feedback from our kababayan on how to improve our services to the people,†Purisima said. “Since this is personal, anybody can follow me, we can see the community discussion about the police.â€
He added that his account should not be mistaken for @ireportangkrimen, the PNP’s official Twitter account, where crimes can be reported and complaints and issues concerning public safety and law enforcement can be aired.
Purisima also encouraged all police commanders nationwide to have their own official Twitter account so they can convey messages to the public.
“Those who can’t come to Camp Crame or to the police station could express their opinion, and can just send it through Twitter. Let us use the technology and be able to send to the commanders any instructions,†he said.
