MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has suspended the implementation of the new trucking policy.
Truckers and dealers of agricultural products earlier said that prices of rice and other farm products could rise as a result of the new regulation, reducing the allowable loading volume for cargo trucks.
The DPWH started implementing on June 1 a reduction on the prescribed gross vehicle weight (GVW) depending on truck configuration.
Last July 12, Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson ordered the immediate suspension of the enforcement of the maximum allowable GVW for trucks and trailers until Jan. 31 next year.
