16 taxis with ‘batingting’ seized at airport

Rudy Santos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - At least 16 taxis accredited to pick up passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport were impounded yesterday after the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) found they had ”batingting,” devices that would speed up their fare meters.

Connie Bungag, MIAA public affairs department head, said they conducted a surprise inspection following passenger complaints regarding taxis with unusually fast fare meters.

Approximately 680 cabs from 14 accredited companies are deployed at NAIA’s four terminals while 700 cars from 11 car rental firms are registered with the MIAA.

Some of the 16 taxis impounded at the Airport Police Department had old fare meter seals while others did not have public utility vehicle license plates, Bungag said.
