PNP memo triggers stir at Crame

Bebot Sison Jr., Cecille Suerte Felipe - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A memorandum meant to put order at Camp Crame created a stir after several members of the media were barred from entering the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters yesterday.

Ivy Bernardo of Radio 5, her driver Francisco Sto. Domingo and Antonio Amosco Jr., driver of a dzMM reporter, were held at Gate 2 of Camp Crame at around 8:30 a.m.

The duty police guards told them to get clearance first from the PNP-Public Information Office.

Veteran radio reporter Bing Formento of dzRH and Tuesday Niu of dzBB were also held temporarily Tuesday night.

The duty police officers assigned at the gate showed them a memo dated July 8 and signed by Senior Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac, chief of the PNP-PIO.

The memo was titled “monitoring of media activities inside Camp Crame.”
