NBI can go after drug mule’s recruiters – Binay

Jose Rodel Clapano - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Vice President Jejomar Binay is set to visit the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) this week to find out why the agency is not acting against the recruiters of a Filipina executed in China for drug trafficking last week.

In an interview after his speech at the testimonial dinner for the Philippine-American Friendship Day at a hotel in Makati City Tuesday night, Binay said the NBI could conduct pursuit operations against the Filipino recruiters of the executed drug courier while waiting for the filing of a complaint by her family.

“I have not met with them yet. I was informed that they are very much aloof to the media that is why there is no complaint yet. We are still setting up the meeting. Hopefully this week because the NBI needs to move,” he said.

The Vice President said the NBI could act on its own based on the criminal aspect of the case.

Binay said a big drug syndicate was behind the case of the executed Filipina, who was described only as 35 years old.

He said the same group recruited the three other Filipino drug couriers executed in China in March 2011.
