MANILA, Philippines - Two pedestrians were injured after being hit by taxi that figured in an accident in Malate, Manila yesterday morning.

The victims – both female and still unidentified as of press time – were crossing Malvar Street near its intersection with Taft Ave. at around 3 a.m. when they were bumped by a taxi. They were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Taxi driver Joel Padilla told investigators at the Manila District Traffic Unit he was cruising through the Taft Ave. when a Honda CRV driven by an unidentified man suddenly hit the side of his taxi.

The impact was so strong the front of the CRV was destroyed and the taxi was dragged a few meters away until it hit the two pedestrians.

Padilla claimed he stopped at the intersection at a red light when the speeding CRV suddenly appeared from Malvar street.

Probers said they will investigate the incident to determine who should be held liable for charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple injuries and damage to properties.
