Businesswoman slain in ambush

Ramil Bajo, Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A 67-year-old businesswoman was killed in an ambush while she and her husband were on their way to their factory in Valenzuela City Saturday morning.

Cristina Shotien Ong and her husband were in their sport utility vehicle along the national highway in Barangay Kanumay West when a man shot at her shortly before 11 a.m. Ong died while being treated at the Fatima Hospital.

Investigators have yet to determine the motive for Ong’s murder.

Valenzuela police chief Senior Superintendent Rhoderick Armamento said one of the witnesses said the gunman was clearly aiming at Ong.

He said they are preparing a sketch of the gunman based on the witnesses’ descriptions.

Investigators are looking at business rivalry as a possible motive but are not discounting other angles, Armamento said.

Slugs recovered from the scene will be subjected to ballistics tests, he added.
