Motorist points gun at traffic enforcer

Perseus Echeminada - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A motorist reportedly pointed a gun at a traffic enforcer who tried to accost him for a traffic violation along the Skyway in Muntinlupa City Saturday afternoon.

The motorist, who was reported to be driving a white Mitsubishi Montero Sport (TOQ-753), allegedly disregarded no-passing lane signs in trying to get ahead of other vehicles at the Skyway’s north toll plaza.

When traffic enforcer Abdul Kamad accosted the motorist, the man allegedly got out of his car and pointed a pistol at Kamad’s chest. “What is your problem?” he reportedly asked Kamad in Filipino.

Other enforcers responded and brought the motorist to the Muntinlupa police station, where Kamad and the motorist settled the case amicably.

Kamad said he is “not pursuing the case” against the motorist, whom he refused to identify. According to sources, the motorist’s surname is Labrador and he is reportedly an influential person in the city.

Chief Inspector Condrado Bunyi, who heads the Muntinlupa police’s criminal investigation division, confirmed that the motorist and the traffic enforcer had a confrontation at the police station but there was no report of a gun-pointing incident.

“The two parties settled their case amicably there was no complaint filed,” he said.

Bunyi also said that the incident happened at the Skyway and security personnel should have confiscated the gun.
