2 cabbies nabbed for robbing tourist
MANILA, Philippines - Two taxi drivers were arrested for allegedly robbing a Korean tourist they fetched from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport at around midnight Saturday.
Danilo Panis and Danilo Forteza were arrested at a gasoline station near the airport after Kyeong Tak Yoon was able to jot down the taxi’s plate number, Parañaque police chief Senior Superintendent Andrei Felix said.
Kyeong, billeted at a hotel in Manila, had gone to the airport to fetch his wife and son as they flew in from Korea. They had taken the cab driven by Panis, who demanded that they pay P300 per kilometer as he drove away from the airport.
Even as Kyeong objected, Panis picked up Forteza along the road. Together, the two men allegedly threatened to kill Kyeong and his family. They robbed the family of P5,000 and $25 before abandoning them along Roxas Boulevard, Felix said.
