DOLE warns maids vs bogus job offers in Canada

Mayen Jaymalin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) yesterday warned Filipino household service workers (HSWs) employed in Hong Kong against accepting bogus job offers in Canada.

Philippine Overseas Employment Administration chief Hans Cacdac said at least 44 Filipino HSWs in Hong Kong have been victimized and paid placement fees for non-existent jobs in Canada.

Citing a report from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Cacdac said Yamsuan and Associates Overseas Employment Services Ltd./Pacific Management Services Ltd. – allegedly run by a Filipino – has been posting advertisements in English newspapers in Hong Kong to lure workers into paying placement fees of up to $300.
