Metro workers won’t get wage hike yet

Mayen Jaymalin - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Workers in Metro Manila are unlikely to get wage increase until August.

The Regional Tripartite Wage and Productivity Board (RTWPB) said yesterday that consultations and deliberations for a possible wage hike may take two months.

Aida Andres, RTWPB National Capital Region secretary, said two public consultations on wage hike are scheduled in July, while the public hearing is set sometime in August.

She said the board would convene representatives of employers, employees, government and other concerned parties to review the economic conditions in the region as well as the pending wage petitions.

The Trade Union Congress of the Philippines earlier announced plans to file a new petition seeking P85 to P100 increase in the daily take home pay of workers in the metropolis.
