MANILA, Philippines - An allegedly cash-strapped man committed suicide in Caloocan City Tuesday.
Police said the body of Joseph Manahan, 50, was discovered hanging in his home in Bagong Silang at about 7 a.m.
Manahan used a nylon cord in killing himself, police said. However, probers were puzzled as a steel chain was tied around his hands. His neighbor, Ligaya Sarmiento, reported the incident to the police.
Manahan was the third man to have committed suicide in Caloocan City in a span of three days allegedly over financial problems.
On Sunday, a former security guard allegedly hooked to drugs hanged himself with a nylon cord.
In his suicide note, Mark Anthony Delemos, 27, of Bagong Barrio, complained of lack of money to buy food and jealousy over his wife’s boss.
Last Monday, 65-year-old Marcial Mallo died after jumping off a footbridge near the Manila Central University Hospital.
Mallo’s daughter-in-law, Joy, believed that the sexagenarian wanted to end their family’s problem over the lack of money needed to buy his medicine.
Mallo had been suffering from tuberculosis and heart ailment.
