Gun ban lifted; 11 more violators held
MANILA, Philippines - Hours before the gun ban ended, police arrested yesterday 11 persons for violating the firearm control policy.
Chief Superintendent Generoso Cerbo Jr., spokesman of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said the police force will intensify its anti-crime efforts despite the lifting of the gun ban.
“We will still go after criminals, we will further intensify our anti-crime campaign. Personnel of PNP-Oplan Katok will go to the houses of gun owners to remind them to renew their licenses and permits,†Cerbo said.
The gun ban, which took effect last Jan. 13, ended at 11:59 p.m. last night. The PNP also lifted the suspension of the permit to carry firearm outside residence, meaning licensed gun holders with PTCFOR can now bring their guns outside their homes.
The National Task Force SAFE (Secure and Fair Elections) said 11 more were arrested yesterday, bringing to 3,695 the number of gun ban violators.
