Juico accepts Morato’s apology
MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) chairperson Margarita Juico yesterday accepted the apology of the agency’s former head Manuel Morato for their “unfortunate differences†in the past.
Morato, together with former president, now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, is facing plunder charges before the Sandiganbayan for allegedly diverting P366 million in PCSO intelligence funds from 2008 to 2010.
“I have forgiven Mr. Manuel L. Morato a long time ago for his attacks on my person and family. As a Christian, it is not mine to keep forgiveness from anyone,†Juico said in a statement.
“I hope Mr. Morato has forgiven me too for whatever pain he perceives he suffered as a result of my faithfully performing my duties as PCSO chairperson,†Juico added.
Citing his failing health, Morato sent a letter to Juico last Thursday, offering his apology for their past differences.
Last Friday, the Sandiganbayan’s First Division allowed Morato, former PCSO chairman Sergio Valencia and director Raymundo Roquero to post bail in the plunder case.
Juico said the grant of bail is a testament to the Aquino administration’s sense of justice, adding that it has not used its power against anyone and has displayed its highest respect for the judiciary.
She said the case against Morato is best left to the sound discretion of the court. “We will abide with the decision and continue to respect rights protected under the Constitution,†she said.
Meanwhile, Juico said the PCSO would continue to provide necessary, timely and adequate medical assistance to the scores of people seeking its help in its offices nationwide.
“I also appeal to our responsible media partners to help spread PCSO’s noble works and undertakings and assure everyone that the PCSO will be there in times of their health and medical needs, calamities and other disasters,†Juico said.
