SoKor drug convict caught in Manila

MANILA, Philippines - A South Korean fugitive convicted for illegal drugs was arrested by Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agents in Malate, Manila Tuesday, an official said yesterday.

Eun Sun Woo was sentenced in 2009 to serve three years at the Korean Correctional Service in Gonju, PDEA director general Arturo Cacdac Jr. said.

When a PDEA agent approached him as he was walking near the corner of Quirino Avenue and Adriatico street, he tried to run and was subdued in front of a hotel a few blocks away.

“He admitted that he violated Philippine immigration laws but denied any wrongful act he committed in South Korea. He even tried to bribe the PDEA agents whom he mistakenly identified as immigration officers in order to evade arrest,” Cacdac said.

Park Yongjeung, second secretary and consul of the South Korean embassy, asked PDEA authorities to have Eun detained at the immigration jail in Taguig City to facilitate his deportation.
