BOC seizes P25-M fake drugs from South Korea

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Customs (BOC) yesterday seized P25 million worth of fake and expired medicine that allegedly came from South Korea.

In a statement, BOC Commissioner Rufino Biazon said a 40-foot shipping container with 20 pallets of Simvastatin, Centrum, Perigo and Amoxycillin arrived at the Manila International Container Port last March 8.

The cargo was consigned to Mountain Glory Agri Sales Corp.

Upon verification of the consignees’ accreditation with the Food and Drugs Administration, the BOC learned that Mountain Glory Agri Sales Corp. had no license to operate and to import medicines.

BOC personnel became suspicious of the shipment when they discovered that the shipping container has no thermostat.

The confiscated goods will be destroyed to prevent them from being sold to the public.
