NCRPO seizes substandard electrical products

Non Alquitran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Members of the National Capital Region Police Office confiscated truckloads of substandard electrical products at three warehouses in Binondo, Manila over the weekend, NCRPO chief Director Leonardo Espina said yesterday.

The raids were done on the heels of the Divisoria Mall fire, which destroyed P250 million worth of property, he said. Arson investigators are eyeing a short circuit as a cause of the fire.

Espina expressed hope that the confiscation of the substandard electrical products would help prevent fires in Metro Manila and other parts of the country.

The NCRPO chief presented yesterday the seized items during a press briefing at Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City.

“We missed the owners of the three warehouses but just the same we will file appropriate charges against them,” he said.

Espina said they plan to charge Jonathan Hou and 12 other persons listed as owners of the three warehouses with violating Republic Act 7394, the consumers’ protection law.
