2 Globe broadband hackers arrested

Non Alquitran - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Two men who allegedly hacked into Globe’s broadband system were arrested by the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) recently, officials said yesterday.

“We are addressing new forms of crime happening in the metropolis. This is a form of economic sabotage and we should address it immediately also to help the government or its fight in sustaining our growing economy,” said NCRPO chief Director Leonardo Espina.

Espina said Joseph Calderon was arrested in a fastfood restaurant at the corner of Regalado and Quirino Avenues in Quezon City Thursday.

A team headed by Senior Inspector Ruselito Sabado of the Regional Police Investigation and Operating Unit (RPIOU) recovered from Calderon’s possession a cloned Globe Wimax broadband and an antenna booster.

Yesterday, Calderon led RPIOU police officers to Rodel Ancheta at a house on Litex Road in Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City.

Espina said Ancheta was caught reactivating an unserviceable Wimax broadband modem that was given by an undercover agent for repair and activation.

Recovered from Ancheta were an activated Globe Wimax Internet modem; 16 deactivated Globe Wimax modems; a desktop computer used in the reactivation of deactivated modem; 391 scrap Wimax IC boards and 10 P100  bills dusted with ultra violet powder.

The arrest of Calderon and Ancheta followed the capture two weeks ago of Yooun Nayong, 37, a Korean national; and Carlo Dadulla, 21, both residing in Quezon City, also for hacking the Globe broadband system.

Calderon and Ancheta were charged with violating the access devices, e-commerce and anti-fencing laws.
