MANILA, Philippines - A Filipino-Chinese tutor was slain after armed men barged into his house in Quezon City and robbed him and his family of cell phones and P1,500 yesterday morning.
Edward Choy, 57, was shot in the chin and neck during the robbery at his house in Barangay Mariana. He died upon arrival at St. Luke’s Medical Center.
Police Officer 2 Alvin QuisumÂbing said around 10 men were involved in the robbery. Choy was cleaning the grounds around his house when seven of the robbers, armed with handguns and rifles, barged into the compound at past 6 a.m.
Aside from Choy, the house was occupied by his four children, his wife and a helper.
Some of the robbers went upstairs and ransacked the rooms, “looking for a vault, but the children said there was none,†Quisumbing said.
Because Choy had been shouting for help, the armed men repeatedly shot him before fleeing in an owner-type jeep with the cell phones and the small amount of money they had taken from the members of his household.
