MANILA, Philippines - A construction worker who robbed a Nepalese student in broad daylight on Friday was arrested after the victim resisted and shouted for help, calling the attention of patrolling policemen.

Roel Pascual, 29, of Barangay Gulod in Novaliches, was arrested minutes after robbing and stabbing Ragbu Bhandary, 24, of his gold necklace worth P45,000, according to a report from the Quezon City Police District Station 2.

The report stated that Bhandary was waiting for a taxi at the corner of EDSA and Congressional Avenue at around 10 a.m. Friday when Pascual reportedly poked a knife at the student’s side and told him to give up the necklace.

When Bhandary clasped his necklace even tighter, Pascual reportedly stabbed the victim in the right hand and grabbed the necklace. The student’s shouts attracted the attention of policemen, who arrested the suspect.

Pascual faces charges of robbery and physical injuries.
