MANILA, Philippines - Charges of murder and rape are being readied against a construction worker who kidnapped a nine-year-old girl and her six-year-old brother Tuesday night, Makati City police chief Senior Superintendent Manuel Lukban said yesterday.
Anthony David, 20, said he was high on drugs when he raped the girl and strangled the boy with his belt when he tried to stop him from raping his sister, Lukban said. David was arrested by Pasay and Makati police officers in the barracks of a construction site along Osmeña Highway Wednesday afternoon.
Pasay police chief Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Llorca said the siblings’ mother sought their help, saying her children were missing.
David said he was able to convince the children to go with him to their barracks by promising them slippers and cell phones. At the construction site, he introduced the children as his nephew and niece, he said.
Llorca said the girl escaped from David and returned to Pasay. Police officers who were sent to rescue her brother found the boy was already dead.
