10 arrested in jueteng raids
MANILA, Philippines - Ten persons were arrested during separate raids on jueteng joints in Marikina and Quezon cities Tuesday.
Director Cipriano Querol, chief of the Directorate for Intelligence of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said P6,000 cash bets and gambling paraphernalia were confiscated by his men during the raids.
He said they conducted the raids after receiving information from an informant.
Elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and Intelligence Group (IG) swooped down on a suspected jueteng joint located along Westpoint street, in Cubao, Quezon City at 6:30 p.m. and arrested two bet collectors who yielded P1,651 cash bets and gambling paraphernalia.
Five hours later, the raiding team swooped down on another jueteng joint on Katipunan street, Calumpang, Marikina City where they arrested eight persons and seized P4,520 cash bets.
Querol said those arrested were taken to the CIDG headquarters in Camp Crame. Illegal gambling charges are being readied against them, he said.
