MANILA, Philippines - Two fires broke out yesterday in Parañaque and Pasig cities, destroying at least 70 homes.

Fire Officer 1 Adriano Berde said that as of 6:30 p.m. last night, firefighters have yet to put out the blaze that started at nearly 2 p.m. in Airport Village at Moonwalk, Parañaque and destroyed at least 50 houses.

The fire was put under control at past 3 p.m. but firefighters were still in the area, prepared to douse any remaining flames, last night.

Investigators have yet to determine what caused the fire. No one was reported hurt or killed, Berde said.

In Pasig City, a fire of still unknown origin gutted 20 houses as it spread through a residential area in Barangay Maybunga before dawn yesterday.

According to the Pasig City fire department, the blaze left at least P400,000 worth of damage when it destroyed the houses on West Bank Road at nearly 3 a.m.

Initial investigation showed that the blaze started at the house of Felipe Habay, specifically the bedroom of Habay’s daughter. The fire only reached first alarm, but razed 20 houses before firefighters put it out at about 4 a.m.
