QC cop in hit-and-run: Third time unlucky

Reinir Padua - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A Quezon City policeman’s run of bad luck seemed to continue when he landed in the hospital for the third time this year after being injured in a hit-and-run Wednesday.

Police Officer 2 Anselmo Lazatin’s arm was still in a sling when he was brought to Camp Karingal yesterday. He is assigned to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 10.

This was not the first time the 45-year-old Lazatin was seriously injured in an incident.

On March 27, Lazatin was knocked out by American basketball player Jamelle Cornley when he accosted the cager for causing trouble at a hotel.

On Feb. 18, he was beaten up by three men he accosted after one of them took his photo while he was in a police car, which was damaged during the scuffle.

The case was settled, according to QCPD Station 10 commander Superintendent Marcelino Pedrozo Jr.

QCPD director Senior Superintendent Richard Albano wants all possible charges filed against the motorist who sped away after hitting Lazatin at the corner of V. Luna and East Avenues on Wednesday morning.

“I want that person charged and I want that car impounded,” Albano said, referring to the black Toyota Corolla registered under Eagle Cement Corp. based in Mandaluyong City. He also vowed to shoulder Lazatin’s medical expenses.

Investigators are eyeing complaints for reckless imprudence resulting in serious physical injuries and abandonment of one’s own victim.
