Lim unveils Dolphy statue
MANILA, Philippines - Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim led yesterday the unveiling of a seven-foot bronze statue honoring the late comedian Dolphy in front of the Museo Pambata on Roxas Boulevard.
Lim was joined by Dolphy’s sister, Laura, and children Dolphy Quizon Jr., Vandolph, Epy, Eric, Ronnie, Nicole, Sally and Rolly as well as the late actor’s other relatives and friends.
City engineer Moises Alcantara said Museo Pambata was a beneficiary of the RVQ Foundation, established by Dolphy in 1966, which is why it had been chosen as the site of his monument.
The statue was sculpted by Jonas Roces, who also created the statue of Fernando Poe Jr. along Roxas Boulevard.
Lim said he believes it is fitting to honor Dolphy for his great contribution to the arts, particularly the movie and television industry, and for touching the lives of so many Filipinos through his movies and television shows.
Dolphy Jr., the eldest of the late comedian’s children, thanked Lim for building the monument for his father. He described the mayor as a “friend up to the end.â€
