MANILA, Philippines - Some candidates in Pasay City continue to defy rules set by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on common poster areas, an officer said yesterday.
“Some candidates don’t want to follow the law,†Comelec officer Frances Arabe told The STAR.
She said they have sent seven new notices to remove illegal posters and streamers and another clearing operation will be carried out.
Last Friday, a Comelec task force tore down illegal campaign materials in various parts of the city. At least two truckloads of posters and streamers were hauled to the city hall for documentation.
Arabe said she will submit a report to the Comelec’s legal department, which will evaluate if the candidate featured in the illegal campaign material committed an election offense.
She said the Comelec has so far sent 26 notices to the city’s candidates, at least five of whom reportedly ignored the notices.
