MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino has approved the promotion of the chief of the elite Special Action Force (SAF) and three other officials of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
SAF commander Director Carmelo Valmoria got his 2-star rank equivalent to major general in the military, according to PNP chief Director General Alan Purisima.
SAF is the brigade-sized national maneuver unit of the PNP capable of tactical police operations in sea, air and land.
On the other hand, promoted to Chief Superintendents were Luis Ricardo Chavez of the Directorate for Integrated Police Operations in Western Mindanao; Rolando Macusi, executive officer, Directorate for Research and Development; and Chief Superintendent Pancho Adelberto Hubilla, Deputy Regional Director for Administration of Police Regional Office 5.
Purisima said the promotion of Valmoria and the three PNP officials were based on the recommendation of Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas.
