Firefighter hurt in Sampaloc blaze

MANILA, Philippines - A volunteer firefighter was injured while responding to a fire that hit a residential and commercial complex in Sampaloc, Manila Saturday night.

Jess Claudio sustained first-degree burns on his feet during the blaze that gutted six commercial buildings and nine houses and displaced 20 families.

Probers from the Manila Fire Department said the fire started in the house of a certain Monet Sitioco. Some P2 million worth of properties were damaged by the time the fire was put out at past 8 p.m. The cause of the fire remains unknown, probers said.
