MANILA, Philippines - A police officer was shot dead by four men who made off with his gun in Tondo, Manila yesterday afternoon.
Police Officer 1 Jessie Boy Lorenzo, 23, a member of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Regional Public Safety Battalion in Taguig City, was buying an energy drink at a store at the corner of Laurel and Chesa streets when he was attacked.
Lorenzo would always stop by the same store to buy an energy drink before going to work, according to Police Officer 1 Anthony Boncan.
Yesterday afternoon, as Lorenzo was buying the drink, two men approached him from behind and grabbed his service firearm while another shot him in the neck, witnesses said.
Manila Police District deputy director Senior Superintendent Ronald Estilles has ordered a massive manhunt for Lorenzo’s attackers. He said two of them are brothers who have been in and out of prison for crimes ranging from robbery to homicide.
Lorenzo was a good policeman and all efforts should be exerted to arrest his killers, Estilles said.
