BOC seizes P12-M tires, computer accessories

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Customs (BOC) recently seized P12 million worth of imported used tires, electronic and computer accessories at the Manila International Container Port (MICP), an official said yesterday.

In a statement, Commissioner Rufino Biazon said the items were detected by agents under X-ray Inspection Project (XIP).

The shipment of tires, misdeclared as oil filters and pistons, arrived in a 40-foot shipping container from Japan last Jan. 24, Biazon said. It was consigned to Nolman Commercial.

Another 40-foot shipping container held Internet broadband Wi-Fi routers, network cables, antivirus compact discs and iPhone cases misdeclared as computer parts. The shipment arrived at the MICP from Singapore on Feb. 13.
