Girl, 15, fights back after 9 years of alleged abuse

MANILA, Philippines - A 15-year-old girl fought off her stepfather’s attempt to rape her in their house in Pasig City and had him arrested Monday night.

The girl told investigators her stepfather, a 36-year-old cook, started raping her in 2004 – when she was six years old – each time he was drunk and her mother was away.

The girl was sound asleep in her room when she was awakened by her stepfather touching her just before midnight, according to Senior Police Officer 4 Digna Cas, chief of the Pasig City police’s women’s and children’s protection desk.

Cas said the girl ran to the kitchen but the suspect, apparently drunk, ran after her and grabbed her. The teenager grabbed a billiard cue and repeatedly hit her stepfather in the head and body.

When the suspect lay on the floor, bleeding, the girl ran out of the house and sought help from members of the barangay security force, who arrested her stepfather and turned him over to the city police.

The suspect is being held at the city police headquarters pending the filing of charges of multiple counts of rape and one count of attempted rape in relation to violating the anti-child abuse law, police said.
