1 dead, 5 hurt as fires hit Navotas, Malabon

MANILA, Philippines - One died and five others were hurt when fires broke out in Navotas and Malabon yesterday.

At past 2 a.m., a vehicle burst into flames as it was parked in front of a residential compound in Daang Hari, Navotas. The flames spread throughout the compound, killing Alberto Garcia, 55, and injuring couple Gabriel and Rosita Cruz.

The blaze reached third alarm before it was put out at around 4 a.m.

At past noon, three firemen were hurt while 50 families were left homeless when a fire broke out at a taho (a sweet soy-based snack) factory in Barangay Maysilo, Malabon City.

The fire, caused by a coal stove, was put out two hours later.
