Stray bullet victim’s ma: Help my son live

MANILA, Philippines - The mother of stray bullet victim Jhon Kerth Galang asked yesterday for help to prolong her son’s life.

Marivic said the bullet that struck her 16-year-old son in the head has yet to be removed since the wound remains swollen.

“The doctors are waiting for it to subside before deciding whether to operate on it,” she said. “Please help my son live longer. Please let him live,” she said.

Marivic said Jhon Kerth is determined to go back to school and march at his graduation rites next month.

“Right now my concern is how not to lose hope. It’s difficult for a mother to see your son suffer but I want to fight for my son’s life. I don’t want him to see me weak,” she said.

Jhon Kerth’s family shells out P2,000 daily for his medicine alone. “The problem is, I don’t know where to get the money. Right now, we’re depending on debts and donations,” Marivic said.

Marivic, 35, is jobless while Kerth stepfather, Renato Asme, only earns P400 a day. Kerth’s real father has never seen the boy, she said.

Kerth was asleep when a bullet hit his left temple. He remains confined at the East Avenue Medical Center.
