Maynilad holds water management workshop

Rhodina Villanueva - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Maynilad Water Services Inc., in coordination with the Maynilad Water Academy, recently conducted a three-day workshop for representatives of local water districts.

Maynilad president and chief executive officer Ricky Vargas said the participants shared their expertise in the field of Non-Revenue Water Management.

The activity was held in partnership with the Philippine Water Revolving Fund and the Philippine Association of Water Districts.

Vargas said that after launching one of the largest and most ambitious NRW reduction programs in Asia, Maynilad successfully brought down its NRW level to 40.9 percent by the end of 2012 from 66 percent in 2006.

“The project has resulted in the recovery of over 600 million liters of water per day, as well as the repair of more than 156,000 pipe leaks,” he said.

Among the topics discussed were basic hydraulics, use of technology for NRW, pressure management, NRW assessment, physical and commercial losses, and the establishment of district metered areas.

“We hope to share the expertise we developed through workshops so that more water operators can benefit from our tried-and-tested methods of water management,” Vargas said.
