Korean gets life for selling ecstasy
MANILA, Philippines - A Korean man was sentenced to life imprisonment for selling 10 capsules of ecstasy to an undercover Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency operative, PDEA chief Arturo Cacdac Jr. said yesterday.
He said Manila Regional Trial Court Judge Thelma Bunyi-Medina, in a Dec. 12, 2012 decision, convicted Kim Kyu Yeol, 53, and ordered him to pay a fine of P500,000.
Kim was arrested in December 2009 in a drug bust at a restaurant in Harrison Plaza. Each ecstasy capsule has a street value of P1,000, PDEA said.
“A favorable ruling on drug cases greatly complements the efforts of law enforcement officers who risk life and limb to arrest drug personalities. To see drug offenders punished with the full force of the law is our ultimate yardstick of victory,†Cacdac said.
