Bullets found in luggage of Fil-Am, 75

Rudy Santos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - A 75-year-old Filipino-American was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 (NAIA-2) yesterday after customs examiners found 50 9mm bullets in his luggage.

An X-ray technician detected bullets in the luggage of Domingo Rave Aquino, who flew in from San Francisco and was supposed to board a connecting flight to Cebu, according to NAIA customs police chief Marlon Alameda.

When customs police officer Antonio Punzalan and examiner Anthony Relucio inspected Aquino’s luggage, they found a box of bullets. Aquino said he did not know the contents of the box his niece asked him to bring to Cebu.

Alameda said Aquino will be charged before the Pasay City prosecutor’s office for violating Presidential Decree 1866, which penalizes the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and Section 101 of the Customs and Tariff Code, which deals with the importation of prohibited goods.
