‘Cop’ robs businessman of P.5 M
MANILA, Philippines - A businessman lost P530,000 to two robbers, one of whom wore a police uniform, in Tondo, Manila at past midnight yesterday.
Gil Kingsu and his driver, Rico Solmiron, went to the Manila Police District (MPD) Theft and Robbery Section and reported they had been robbed along North Bay Boulevard in Gagalangin.
Councilman Jerome Amper of Barangay 148 Zone 13 said they were on a routine patrol when they noticed a sport utility vehicle (SUV) being followed by two men on a motorcycle.
Amper said he and some barangay watchmen approached the men and asked what the problem was, but they told him the occupants of the SUV were their companions.
He said that even the occupants of the vehicle told him that there was nothing wrong and that the two men were indeed their companions, but he suspected something was amiss when motorcycle-riding men left in a hurry.
Kingsu said the men took his brown Gucci clutch bag with P530,000 and a cellular phone.
Investigators are trying to find out if one of the robbers is a member of the MPD.
