Noy to lead Rizal Day rites

MANILA, Philippines - President Aquino will lead on Sunday the 116th anniversary of the martyrdom of Jose Rizal at the Rizal Park in Manila, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines said yesterday.

At 5 a.m., the Knights of Rizal and member agencies will re-enact the transfer of Rizal’s urn from the corner of San Fernando and Juan Luna streets in Binondo to Rizal Park 100 years ago.

Also participating in the re-enactment is the Grand Lodge of the Philippines, led by Grand Master Santiago Gabionza and appendant Masonic bodies.

After the commemorative rites, Aquino will lead the flag-raising and wreath-laying rites at the Rizal Park.

Simultaneous flag-raising and wreath-laying activities will be held at the Rizal shrines in Calamba, Laguna and Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte.

Ambassador to China Erlinda Basilio will lead the unveiling of the Rizal bust at the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Garden in Intramuros, Manila.
