MANILA, Philippines - A total of 1,014 licensed professionals have joined the Philippine National Police (PNP) officer corps.

PNP chief Director General Nicanor Bartolome administered the oath of office to 489 new police commissioned officers stationed at the national headquarters during simple ceremonies at Camp Crame Friday. Simultaneous oath-taking rites were also held at the various police regional offices.

“These new breed of leaders shall echo our mutual responsibilities to serve our people... Before I retire, it is my honor as your Chief PNP to induct these leaders into the PNP Officer Corps,” Bartolome said.

According to PNP Directorate for Personnel and Records Management head Director Elpidio de Asis Jr., the 1,014 licensed professionals were commissioned into the PNP officer corps under the 2012 Lateral Entry Program to fill up requirements for more police commissioned officers in lower units.

Among the newly inducted police commissioned officers are five lawyers, three medical officers and two priests. They were appointed to the initial rank of Police Senior Inspector with a basic monthly salary of P35,312 and subsistence allowance, clothing allowance, quarters allowance, hazard pay, cost of living allowance, and additional compensation.

Meanwhile, appointed to the initial rank of Police Inspector were 978 line officers, seven forensic chemists, 11 nurses, and eight communication and electronics officers. They will receive a basic monthly salary of P32,341 with other allowances and fringe benefits.

De Asis said the newly appointed police commissioned officers will still undergo the mandatory officers’ basic course and field training program before reporting to their respective assignments.
