Perseus Echeminada - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Sen. Manny Villar and wife, former Las Piñas Rep. Cynthia Villar, will inaugurate today the Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance or SIPAG Center which aims to uplift the lives of poor Filipinos.

The center, located along C-5 Extension Road, features a museum, reception hall, mini theater, archives and training rooms.

The Poverty Knowledge Management Center will serve as a library or resource center to collect, preserve, and make accessible to the public an array of reference materials on poverty reduction, livelihood generation, and entrepreneurship. It will cater to students of all ages, scholars, policymakers, and journalists.

The training rooms will offer seminars and briefings on livelihood opportunities, entrepreneurial strategies, and other relevant topics for women, the youth, overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), and other marginalized sectors.

The reception hall features the memorabilia of the Villars.

The Villar Foundation has played an active role in poverty alleviation for 20 years now. Its barangay-based livelihood enterprises provide income to over 500 families nationwide.
