Jeep crashes in Marikina; 1 killed, 22 injured
MANILA, Philippines - A 46-year-old man was killed while 22 others were injured when the passenger jeepney they were riding crashed into an electric post in Marikina City Sunday night.
Patricio Lopez died from massive body injuries, police said.
Those taken to different hospitals were Kenn Medina Bautista, 26; Niño Miguel, 26; Alfredo Lopez, 29; Mary Jane Alvarez, 22; Alvin Bolivar, 18; Christian Benedict Calatong, 25; Lauro de Leon, 49; Joevan Esguerra, 33; Gregorio Abul, 40; Amor Castro, 26; Bryan Medina, 17; Corazon Peneda, 26; Jeffrey Castor, 32; Emmanuel Estanislao, 23; John Dave Rivera, 25; Julie Ann Evangelista, 21; Gilbert Candilaria, 28; Vincent Bulusan, 29; and another unidentified passenger.
Traffic investigators from the Marikina City police said Bautista was driving his jeepney (NXH-331) along Rizal street in Barangay Concepcion Uno at 11:30 p.m.
Bautista tried to overtake another vehicle and hit an electric post in the area.
Due to the impact, the jeepney fell to its side.
Police are readying charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and multiple frustrated homicide against Bautista.
