MANILA, Philippines - The 17,000-strong National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) was placed on high alert yesterday following intelligence reports that the Alferez robbery gang would strike in southern Metro Manila soon.
The Philippine National Police earlier reported monitoring 20 heavily armed members of the gang leaving their stronghold in Mindanao to stage heists in Metro Manila. The PNP said the group, headed by a certain Pikot, is a breakaway group of the Kuratong Baleleng crime gang from Ozamis City.
“They appeared to have decided to make their move now after lying low for a while after realizing that their movement is being monitored. But we are well prepared for them this time,” a police intelligence officer told The STAR.
