Speeding truck kills wife of Pacquiao’s former promoter
MANILA, Philippines - The wife of boxer Manny Pacquiao’s former promoter was killed when she was hit by a delivery truck that lost control in Sampaloc, Manila Wednesday morning.
Tomasa Pamiloza, 66, was tending the garden of a chapel near her house when a wayward truck hit her at around 7:30 a.m., Senior Police Officer 4 Rizalino Intal said. She died while undergoing treatment at the UST Hospital for fractures and wounds all over her body.
Police officers arrested truck driver Deo Obrado, 37, and helper Michael Melloria, 19.
Tomasa’s husband, former Pacquiao promoter and incumbent barangay chairman Alexander Pamiloza, said he does not know how to deal with his wife’s death.
Intal said Melloria was driving the truck, even though he holds only a student’s permit. Obrado was reportedly teaching Melloria how to drive.
Melloria faces charges of driving without a license and reckless imprudence resulting to damage to property with homicide while Obrado is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting to damage to property with homicide.
Intal said he heard that Team Pacquiao was among the first who offered their condolences to the family. Obrado and Melloria reportedly apologized to the victim’s family.
