Motorist shoots at cops after hit-and-run
MANILA, Philippines - A motorist is facing multiple criminal charges for shooting at policemen who arrested him for sideswiping a father and his five-year-old son in Parañaque City Saturday night.
Chief Superintendent Benito Estipona identified the motorist as Richard Torres, 47. He is facing frustrated homicide, attempted murder, and illegal possession of firearms.
Torres was on a motorcycle and passing by Lovewin Compound in Barangay San Dionisio when he hit Esphemar Regunda, 30 and his five-year-old son about 10:30 a.m. The Regundas were crossing the street and about to go home to Lovewin Compound.
Instead of stopping to check on the victims, Torres, then unidentified, left the Regundas and fled toward his house.
The incident was reported to the police community precinct in San Dionisio, leading to the identification of Torres. When the police arrived at his house, Torres shot at them but missed them twice. Police officers grabbed him and brought him to the police station.
